Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) parliamentary group has decided to request for the setting up of a special select committee to probe and determine who is responsible for the economic crisis.

SJB MP Harshana Rajakaruna told a media briefing that a parliamentary group of his party had decided to call for a select committee to determine as to who is behind the economic crisis. “It is essential to find out as to who is responsible for the crisis. It could be the political leadership, or those in the treasury or the then Minister of Finance,” he said.

Also the MP said the cabinet should not be increased at the moment when the country is in a deep economic crisis.

Meanwhile SJB MP S. M. Marikkar, who also participated in the press conference, called for the immediate dissolution of Parliament. “Some say that an election might cost  more funds. However,  it has to be remembered that there are international organizations which provide funds for elections,” he said.

Referring to the decision by MP Kumara Welgama on forming the Nawa Sri Lanka Nidahas Pakshaya yesterday and to go on a new political journey, Mr. Marikkar said those small parties which had contested the last general elections under the SJB ticket should be asked to contest some election on their own and prove their power.
They can support the SJB only after doing it. I have made this proposal to party leader Sajith Premadasa as well. This is my personal view,” he said.
