Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday slammed the Christmas concert which was organized by the Tourism Development Authority, Armed forces and police calling it a media show. SJB MP Hector Appuhamy who is a Catholic told a media briefing that the people of this country are not prepared for festivities. “People especially Christians are usually excited at this time of the year. They welcome others with excitement and are in a mood to enjoy the New year.
However it is different this year as they weep since they cannot afford to purchase food and school stationery for their children. One wonders why these media shows are taking place in such a situation,” the MP questioned.
Asked whether the Opposition Leader is not engaged in media shows, playing musical instruments, playing cricket, the MP denounced it. “The Opposition Leader only joins the children when he sees children playing cricket. Can this be called a media show? He questioned.
“SJB has already drawn up plans to introduce a system to distribute essential items. This system is similar to the cooperative system,” he added.
“We also request the government to do research and determine the nature of electricity consumers and then decide on the segments where the power prices could be increased,” he said.
Referring to Dinesh Schaffter’s killing, he said such incidents will keep the investor away from Sri Lanka.
