SJB to bring in resolution calling for dissolution of Parliament?

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday hinted at bringing in a resolution to dissolve Parliament and hold a snap General Election and urged other parties to support the endeavour.   SJB official spokesman and Member of Parliament S. M. Marikkar told media that all parties in the House including the SLPP and others should be ready to sign it calling for the dissolution of Parliament and hold a General Election.

“SLPP MP and former Minister Johnston Fernando had said the SLPP will emerge victorious in future elections. Therefore, we challenge him and the SLPP to support a resolution to dissolve the House and face a General Election,” Marikkar said.
“Parliament is messed up today and does not represent the will of the people. Therefore, it is best that it is dissolved and let people decide who should be given power,” he added.
Asked about the Presidential Election that has been talked of by many, the MP said his party is ready for anything.” They all talk of a Presidential Election but a General Election will come first,” he said.
The MP who also responded to reports which said Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa would not contest a future presidential poll and will back another, said the party had already approved a resolution to field Mr. Premadasa as a candidate at a future presidential poll.
