Sri Lankan security forces should be trained in modern day warfare, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday. Speaking during a ceremony where Kotelawala Defence University was awarded colours, the President said Sri Lankan tri forces should be upgraded and thereby trained in modern day warfare.
“ War is modernized today. It is not confined to sea, ground and air. It has extended into outer space. There is also cyber warfare as well. It is essential to become competent with modern day warfare technology,” the President said.
“ Kotelawala Defence University can boast of its achievements over the years. Some members of security forces who played a leading role during the final stages have qualified from this university. Therefore I don’t agree with those who oppose the setting up of this university,” he added.
President’ Wickremesinghe also paid a glowing tribute to Late Prime Minister Sir John Kotelawala and recalled that he donated his property to set up the defence university.
