SL records first Covid-19 death of pregnant woman: PHIU



  • The female was three months pregnant and expecting her first child

Sri Lanka has witnessed the first-ever death of a pregnant woman yesterday, the Public Health Inspectors’ Union said.    

Public Health Inspectors’ Union Secretary Mahesh Balasuriya speaking to the Daily Mirror said the female, who was three months pregnant and expecting her first child, died while being transferred to Ragama Hospital from Minuwangoda.   


The victim was a 45-year-old resident of Narangoda Paluwa (West) in Ragama. The death occurred yesterday and the remains were cremated immediately after. The victim was admitted to the Minuwangoda Hospital following a PCR test due to her being found suffering from a severe cough.
