SL to get connected with Indian grid by 2030: Kanchana

The Sri Lankan government has made it a priority to implement the India-Sri Lanka grid connection by 2030, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.   

The decision was announced during a discussion held at the ministry yesterday. He said the World Bank has been assisting the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) with the technical requirements and business models to implement the project.   


He said regional energy integration has been discussed for more than two decades to implement the India-Sri Lanka grid connection.   


The discussions were held regarding the plans related to energy integration and renewable energy development with World Bank’s Director of Regional Integration, Cecile Fruman and Country Manager, Chiyo Kanda yesterday.
