The representatives of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and 11 affiliated parties of the Government have informed the President in writing about the measures that need to be taken to address the present crisis in Sri Lanka.
The proposals have been submitted in a joint letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa
In the letter, the representatives have articulated the importance of forming an interim all-party government.
Besides, it has been proposed to appoint a National Executive Council which will thereby provide necessary instructions to appoint a new Prime Minister, Cabinet of Ministers and Secretaries to respective ministries and to decide on the scope of the ministries.
Other proposals are as follows,
To appoint an advisory panel consisting of experts to each ministry
To curtail all privileges of ministers
To appoint a National Economic Council under the recommendations of the National Executive Council
To rescind 20th amendment and bring back 19th amendment to the Constitution with amendments President Maithripala Sirisena representing the SLFP, MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara representing the 11 constituent parties of the Government, and MPs Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe representing the SLPP have placed their signatures on the letter.
