The Sri Lanka Freedom Party last night called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to hand over the country to a caretaker government while the 11-party alliance suggested to form an interim government to face the current problems confronting the country.
SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara told media that his party would quit the ruling coalition otherwise. Addressing a press conference, National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa said an economic plan should be worked out with the consensus of all the parties representing people in Parliament. Afterwards, he said a new Cabinet should be appointed in terms of the Constitution to implement them.
Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader Udaya Gammanpila, at the same press conference said, an election should be declared after the formation of an interim government. He charged that the government is planning to spend US $ 7 billion for debt servicing despite people being in hunger and darkness without electricity.
He said the government should stop debt repayment.
