Whatever said and done by former senior members, the legitimate SLFP is led by a duly appointed chairman, General Secretary and administered by the Central Committee, the politburo and located at the party head office, General Secretary of the SLFP and former Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said.
Therefore, no one cannot prevent all of them becoming political refugees after the next general election as they will have to contest the election from the SLPP - the party rejected, detested and hated by entire Sri Lanka - he added.
“They have questioned the legitimacy of the current leadership of the SLFP. I must tell them that any political party accepted and identified by the Election Commission is legitimate under the law and as such the courts will also accept what the SLFP says,” Jayasekara stressed.
Jayasekara told the media that all members who betrayed the party and violated party Constitution has already been suspended and will ask them shortly to show cause for their betrayal and fittingly expelled from the party in accordance to the provisions of the Constitution depriving them their parliament membership.
Commenting on former President Chandrika Kumaratunga’s insinuation that he has changed party several times, Jayasekara said it was Chandrika who changed the party seven times and went to courts against the party leader Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike in 1981.
“I left the SLFP and joined UNP in disgust of the ill-treatment of Chandrika. But, I returned to the SLFP respectfully leaving the parliamentary membership. Chandrika is now in the lap of Ranil-Rajapaksa regime and has become top advisor,” he charged.
