SLFP to take action against members who violate party Constitution

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has given power to the party leader to take action against members who violate the party constitution and as such former President Maithripala Sirisena will act accordingly in days to come, General Secretary of the SLFP, former Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said yesterday.

Commenting on the comments made by certain senior members of the party after the SLFP’s 71st annual convention on Friday,  Jayasekera told Daily Mirror that those who talk about democracy within the party must first ask themselves whether they decided to support the SLPP government led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and accepted ministerial positions by betraying the party to protect democracy?

“The SLFP’s position is that the government must first talk to the party seeking its consent to form an interim government for a limited period of time until a general election is held. But, what the government did was to pick members of the SLFP in secret and unethical deals. Those members who accepted cabinet positions and those who expect to accept government position are actually violating the party constitution and betraying it. They have no right to talk about the democracy of the party,” Jayasekara emphasized.    If these members have any grievances or desire not approved by the party, they should have first discussed them with the party leader, General Secretary or with the Central Committee.
