Around 50 SLPP MPs in a letter addressed to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana had requested him to stop providing lunch for MPs. 

“We are of the opinion that supplying of lunch to MPs and Parliament staff which comes to 900 persons should be stopped forthwith. We remind you that people of this country cannot afford to purchase food as a result of the economic crisis,” the MPs said in a letter. 

“We also request you to provide a lunch packet at a price which prevails outside,” the MPs added.
