The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna(SLPP) has yesterday requested President Ranil Wickremesinghe to facilitate the safe return of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to the country, informed sources said.  

The request has been made during a meeting between the SLPP led by its National Organizer, former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and the President at the President’s office.  
Sources said former Minister Basil Rajapaksa has assured that the SLPP will provide full support to the President to build up the country and to solve the current economic crisis.  
In addition, he said that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be allowed to return to the island safely. 

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, Sagara Kariyawasam, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Johnston Fernando, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Namal Rajapaksa and Sanjeeva Edirimanna participated in yesterday’s discussion on behalf of the SLPP.  

UNP MP Vajira Abeywardena, Sagala Ratnayake,UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena and UNP CEO Shamal Seneviratne have also participated.
