The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has launched a temporary registration scheme for homeowners in Kandy ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup tournament.

The initiative aims to meet the high demand for accommodation during the cricket tournament, which is scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 17.

The 2023 Asia Cup, jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, will see six teams competing in a round-robin tournament. While Pakistan will host four matches, Sri Lanka has been entrusted with organizing nine games, making Kandy a key location for cricket fans.   Three matches of the tournament are scheduled to play at  Pallakelle in Kandy.

Homeowners in Kandy have a unique opportunity to capitalize on the surge in demand for accommodations, according to the SLTDA.   The SLTDA said there is a high demand for accommodation and those who have an extra room in their home or other type of accommodation in Kandy, can make extra money by registering it with the SLTDA.  Homeowners interested in participating can provide their name, contact information, address of the accommodation, the number of rooms available,  and the rates per night on a room-only basis. Once the registration is approved, homeowners can list their accommodations directly on the SLTDA’s website.
