Police Special Task Force (STF) following a lengthy probe seized a large stock of contraband cigarettes worth over Rs.3.5 million on Saturday, which had been smuggled into the country through illegal channels.   

The STF Special Operations III team on information conducted a two-week long probe in the areas of Kadawatha, Dehiwala and Negombo and seized a stock of  270 cartons of illegally imported cigarettes comprising of 54,000 sticks.   

The STF arrested a suspect from the Kawdana area in Dehiwala along with the contraband and handed him over to the Dehiwala Police for further investigations. 

 
OIC STF Special Operations III is conducting inquiries on the instructions of STF Commandant and STF ASP S Katugampola.
