Sajith denounces moves to merge SJB and UNP

  • I raise questions on behalf of the people who suffer from hunger and thirst

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa denounced reports that the SJB and the UNP will merge soon and that he would become the Prime Minister under Ranil Wickremesinghe if the latter wins the next Presidential election.

“Why should I get into deals with Ranil?” he questioned.

Responding to reports on a complaint by some ruling party MPs that he is wasting time and money in Parliament by raising unnecessary questions, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said raising questions excessively in the House on issues faced by the people is correct.

“I raise questions on behalf of the people who suffer from hunger and thirst, I inquire about inferior quality medicine in order to see that these issues are resolved. Therefore, I am doing the correct thing. This is why I am happy about the complaint against me by ruling party MPs,” Premadasa said at a gathering at Reggie Ranatunga Vidyalaya in Minuwangoda.
“I don’t want to become like those Opposition MPs who get a monthly payment from the President,” he added.
