Highlighting that this is the best time to hold any kind of election , Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday said Samagi Jana Balawegaya ( SJB) is even ready to support the government to change electoral laws to enable a snap Presidential election.

Speaking at SJB Bala Mandala meeting at Colombo Central organized by MP Mujibur Rahman, Premadasa said this is the best time to hold any kind of election to see who can make a come back and who cannot. “ Some politicians have started a campaign to make a come back. I would like to tell the President to declare any kind of election now.

Hold a General election, a local government election , a provincial council election. Hold even a Presidential election .

We are ready to support electoral reforms to enable a snap Presidential poll. Then we can see who can come back and who cannot,”Premadasa said.

He also challenged former Minister Basil Rajapaksa to contest an election from the Colombo District. “ We heard that Basil Rajapaksa is to give up his US citizenship and return to Sri Lanka. Therefore I challenge him to contest an election from Colombo District,” he said.

“ The SJB was the key factor which enabled the passing of the 21st Amendment. President Ranil Wickremesinghe should remember this fact,” he added.
