The sale or displaying of substandard plugs in shops and and through online sales are prohibited in the country, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said.
While posting a notice on their official Facebook page, the PUCSL said selling, promoting or displaying for sale plugs and sockets, power extension cords, and one to one conversion adaptors in shops or on online platforms in Sri Lanka is a punishable offence unless the said products or items bear the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) certification logo.
Accordingly, 5A sockets with round holes, 5A plugs with round pins, adaptors without the SLS mark, substandard extension cords, and multi-plugs are prohibited.
Plugs, sockets, and adaptors should bear the SLS Product Certification Logo issued by the SLSI.
A gazette notification in this regard was issued on December 7, 2017 under the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Act.
