Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa does not have any connection with Pastor Jerome Fernando, who has been at the centre of controversy, according to the Samagi Bikkhu Peramuna, a Buddhist movement led by the party.  

Venerable Ukkogoda Daminnda Thera, a prominent figure within the movement, said that the statements made by Pastor Jerome are being exploited by interested individuals for political gain. The Thera emphasized that it is these individuals who are attempting to create controversy by falsely associating Mr. Premadasa with the pastor.  
“We are all aware that the Opposition Leader has done a great service to Buddhism by assisting a large number of Buddhist temples. However, some are worried about Mr. Premadasa’s growing influence and therefore try to link him with the pastor,” he said.  

He said that legal action should be taken against Pastor Jerome for disturbing religious harmony with his statements. The Thera’s remarks highlight the movement’s firm stance against any attempts to tarnish Mr Premadasa’s reputation by falsely connecting him with the controversial pastor.
