A group of seven school children under 16 years of age  including two school girls who held a drinking party in an abandoned  building at Sappukade in Welimada were arrested by Welimada Police.

Police said they had broken open the doors of the abandoned  Young Men’s Christian Association building and held a drinking party  to celebrate the birthday of one of them.

Police on information from the public had carried out the  raid and arrested the group of schoolchildren who were already under the  influence of liquor. Police said they suspect schoolchildren were consuming a  high-quality brand of liquor.  Investigations revealed that they were students of a  popular school in Welimada area and that they had left home under the  pretext of attending tuition classes.

A police team under OIC Welimada Police Sampath Abeywickerama had carried out the raid.
