School clusters under “lead schools” to be introduced: Minister

  • This system will resolve the needs of the children

A system of cluster schools which will be known as “lead schools” system will be introduced under the new education reforms which the government intends to introduce, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said yesterday.

The Minister who was speaking during a meeting held at Colombo Education Zonal office said schools which are closely located will be connected under modern technology. “There will be around 1,200  lead schools connected to a number of other schools. This system will resolve the needs of the children. This is cost saving and efficient system to manage schools,” the Minister said.

“No student will be left out under this method while no school will be isolated under this new method. The National Education Research Commission (NERC) and Provincial Education Research Commission will be involved in implementing the new set-up,” the Minister added.

“Any school including national schools or any other school has the chance of becoming a lead school under this concept. Primary schools, Junior Secondary Schools and Senior Secondary Schools will come to exist under the new system,” he also said.

He said schools will be developed systematically under this system.
