Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday urged the security forces and police not to become weapons of state terrorism.

“ Security forces have done a great service in the past to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and earn the respect of everyone. Therefore do not engage in suppressing people and tarnishing your reputation,” Premadasa said.
“ Do not safeguard two people but safeguard 22 million people of the nation,” he added.

“ We would like to know whether both the President and Prime Minister will resign and whether the earlier plan to elect a new President on July 20 has been suspended. I appeal to all people in Sri Lanka to engage in a non violent struggle to remove the President and the Prime Minister from power,” he said.
