A motion was presented to Parliament seeking to extend the time frame given to the select committee on identifying reforms of electoral laws, electoral system and to recommend amendments by two months. 

The select committee will have to submit its proposals before January 16, 2022, as per the motion.
The motion was presented by the Chairman of the committee, Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena last morning.

The resolution to appoint a select committee for the purpose was passed in the House on April 5 2021.
Several political parties and civil organisations have already submitted proposals to change laws pertaining to Presidential, general and local government elections as of today.
