Senior journalist Ravi Ladduwahetty passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged illness at the age of 64. Ladduwahetty was a member of the Daily Mirror editorial team and contributed during its formative years serving in the Business Desk and the News Desk.   

An old boy of Trinity College, Kandy, Ravi began his career as a journalist in the early 1990’s at The Island newspaper as a reporter in the business pages. 

Thereafter he served in the Daily News, Daily Mirror, The Nation and Ceylon Today newspapers and continued to contribute as a freelance writer to different publications until he was overtaken by illness. However, he continued to write and kept abreast with news and current affairs during the last few years even after he became confined in movement following the amputation of one leg.   
Ladduwahetty was a versatile journalist who was equally skilled in reporting and writing on a diversity of subjects whether it be general news, politics, features, business or sports. He was gifted with a vivid memory and could recall names, events, dates and statistics from the top of his head at any given moment. Ravi was the eldest son of late veteran irrigation engineer and Chairman of the Mahaweli Development Board Douglas Ladduwahetty and the late Sita Lakshmi. Journalist colleagues and countless others who had associated with him would fondly recall Ravi as a jovial and fun loving personality with certain eccentricities and idiosyncrasies and he would be sadly missed by all who knew him.
