Seven dead bodies in Karapitiya Hospital mortuary identified Covid-19 positive



  • Three people who died in their homes, were identified COVID-19 positive

Judicial Medical Officer, Ruwan Nanayakkara said seven dead bodies in Karapitiya Teaching Hospital mortuary had been identified as Covid-19 positive cases yesterday.   


Bodies of three people who died in their homes, were identified to have contracted the virus based on PCR tests, he added.

  The rest of the bodies belonged to people who were receiving treatment in the hospital for Covid-19.   
The deceased were from Imaduwa, Baddegama, Hikkaduwa, Bope, Poddala and Morawaka MOH divisions.   
A woman aged 80 from Angulugaha area in Imaduwa had died in her home and a man aged 74 from the same area had died in the hospital.   


A man aged 81 from Waduramba in Baddegama division and a man aged 82 from Narawal Poddala in Baddegama have died in their homes. A 65 year-old person from Walpita North in the same division had died in the hospital while receiving treatments.   


A woman aged 65 from Narigama in Hikkaduwa and a man aged 55 from Alapaladeniya, Morawaka who had been receiving treatments at the hospital had also died. 


These bodies are to be cremated in the Dadella Cemetery in Galle.
