• After the conviction, on filing an appeal, the accused is entitled to seek bail

Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa yesterday filed an appeal in the Colombo High Court through the Magistrate’s Court registrar office, challenging the judgment of Magistrate’s Court to convict her over the diplomatic passport case.   

After the conviction, on filing an appeal, the accused is entitled to seek bail and thereby Shashi Weerawansa has sought bail from Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.  This bail application is to be considered on May 30.
