UNP Headquarters Sirikotha is expected to be relocated after it has been found out that there are some concerns to its present location, the social media reported yesterday.

When contacted by Daily Mirror UNP Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the matter is still in the discussion stage.

“We had an initial discussion with the party leader President Ranil Wickremesinghe on the matter, but no final decision was made,” Mr. Kariyawasam said. Mr. Kariyawasam confirmed that the initial proposal is to relocate the party headquarters to the land in Rajagiriya where the present office of Jathika Wathu Sevaka Sangamaya is located.

“The plan is to hand over the Rajagiriya land to an investor to construct a multi-storey building and to locate Sirikotha in two or three stories once the new building is completed,” he said. The present Sirikotha building was constructed during early 1980s when the party was headed by Late President J. R. Jayewardene.
