Six arrested digging for gold buried during war in Mannar

Six suspects have been arrested for digging for gold suspected to be buried during the war in Mannar, police said.

The Mannar Police conducted a joint operation with the officers of the Mannar Army Camp on a tip-off that a group was conducting excavations in search of gold buried during the war.


 A car, a generator, and equipment used for excavations were also taken into custody. The arrested suspects, aged between 26 and 60 and are residents of Hettimulla, Kotiyakumbura, Panadura, Boralanda and Halpe are to be produced before the Mannar Magistrate's Court.
