Six-year-old girl and three others under gunfire



  • Police sergeant attached to Beliatta police had shot at the villagers  during an altercation with them over the ongoing water supply project in  the village 
  • Suspect had been on duty leave since November 2011 to obtain treatment for leprosy

A six-year-old girl and three others were injured in a shooting near Ganegoda Bodhi at Yahalamulla in Walasmulla.on Thursday .   

A police sergeant attached to Beliatta police had shot at the villagers during an altercation with them over the ongoing water supply project in the village.  


The injured were residents of Yahalamulla and were 65, 41, 28 and six years of age. One of them was a woman and another a girl.   

 Police said the suspect had been on duty leave since November 2011 to obtain treatment for leprosy.   


However the suspect had fled from the area after the incident to evade arrest. Walasmulla police are conducting further investigations to arrest the absconding suspect.
