Sniffer dog sniffs out burglary suspect for Rangala Police

By Shane Seneviratne

In a gripping turn of events, the Rangala Police in Kandy deployed a sniffer dog to track down a suspect involved in a burglary case. Remarkably, the canine led the officers to the suspect’s hiding spot in the home of the complainant’s sister, situated about 400 metres away.

Upon realizing the sister was absent, the police made a crucial phone call, prompting her return.

With her assistance, the sniffer dog pinpointed the suspect, a 24-year-old man hiding in a corner of the house.
Subsequent investigations unveiled that the complainant had left her home temporarily, stowing the key in the shrine outside. Seizing this opportunity, the suspect clandestinely entered the premises, making off with Rs. 90,000 in cash. However, reassuringly, the complainant confirmed her jewellery remained undisturbed in the cabinet.
The Rangala Police, aided by Sergeant 42320 from the Asgiriya Kennel Division conducted inquiries into the matter, underscoring the collaborative effort between specialized units and local law enforcement.
