The social security contribution Levy under which a tax is charged for all imported products used for material used to produce various goods was approved by Parliament with amendments yesterday.  The second reading of the Bill was approved by a majority of 81 votes with 91 members voting for it and 10 against.  

MPs Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dilan Perera, Three JJB MPs led by Anura Kumara Dissanayake and three SJB MPs including Ajith Mannapperuma, Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella and Asok Abeysinghe voted against. Rest of the SJB MPs including Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa were absent during the time of voting.
