Soldier arrested for abducting woman

A soldier and two others who abducted a young woman in Passara town had been arrested by Hingurukaduwa police during a raid at Dambagahawela area on Wednesday evening (28)   


The young woman told police that she with another from Udarawa in Pelwatta, proceeded to Passara on their way home after attending religious observances at Muthiyangana Rajamaha Vihara and were waiting for a bus in Passara town when the suspects travelling by trishaw abducted her.  

The other young woman had however informed the incident to the Passara police. On information from Passara police Hingurukaduwa police that initiated immediate investigations had seized the trishaw at Dambaghawela on Passara-Hingurukaduwa road and arrested the suspects fleeing with the young woman.  


Investigations revealed that the 21-year-old main suspect from Buttala area was a soldier attached to an army camp in Anuradhapura.  


Police said the victim was admitted to Sirigala hospital in Monaragala for medical examination.   
OIC Hingurukaduwa police IP Senerath Bandara is conducting further investigations.
