Several dozen policemen from the Fort Police Station arrived at the main Galle Face agitation site ‘GotaGoGama’ for the second consecutive day yesterday, airing announcements for the occupants to vacate, which was responded by some groups of protesters to dismantle and remove their tents shortly after.
A 30 – 40 strong police team led by officials of the senior inspectorate of the Fort Police arrived at the GGG mass protest site yesterday midday and started airing announcements through a couple of loudspeakers laden on three-wheelers, informing the occupants to vacate immediately.
The protesters who were remaining in numbers at the site started showing their displeasure over these continuous visits by the police to the GGG, had started shouting slogans “Aragalayata jayawewa,” and the police retreated shortly after following orders from the senior officials.
Some of the strugglers were then seen dismantling and removing the tents they were living in for months following this incident.
The police on Wednesday announced that all protesters should vacate the site by 5.00 pm today (5).
The Galle Face Aragalaya marked 117 days yesterday, since its inception on April 09, 2022.
