While deciding not to revise the fuel prices, the government, at a special meeting of Cabinet Ministers and key officials, decided to work out modalities for the uninterrupted fuel supplies.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa called for this meeting yesterday evening to sort out the issues related to the imminent fuel crisis due to the lack of foreign exchange in the country.

The government will settle an outstanding payment of Rs.80 billion owed to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation for the continuous supply of fuel.   In addition to the Cabinet ministers, Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and other officials attended the meeting.

Asked for a comment, Mr. Cabraal said a decision was taken to work out modalities to address the present issues.   He said there would be continuous engagement to respond to the situation.
