In reference to the five-member committee appointed to probe issues in the health sector, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the reason behind the appointment is to clear doubts among people over suspicious deaths caused in the recent past.

Minister Keheliya appointed a five-member committee headed by Prof. Chandima Jeewandara of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura to conduct a thorough investigation and report on the issues related to the health sector.
Keheliya Rambukwella told the Daily Mirror that there are doubts among the family members of those  who died in the recent past due to the alleged inferior quality of drugs.

“Accordingly, the committee is tasked with inquiring into those deaths in government hospitals,” he noted.
He said the committee comprises experts with extensive knowledge and understanding of both medicine and nursing, as well as allergies.

Accordingly, they will conduct a thorough investigation into all the controversial deaths and submit a report to the Health Minister.

The committee will be helpful in providing better health services to the people in the hospital system in the country, Minister Rambukwella said.
