Special commodity levy on fruits, dairy products introduced



  • Levy imposed for six months beginning March 10

The Trade and Investment Policy Department of the Finance Ministry has imposed a Special Commodity Levy on several imported items such as fruits and dairy products. A notice on this was issued by the Trade and Investment Policy Department Director-General K.A. Vimalenthirarajah, under the instructions of the 
Finance Minister. 

This Special Commodity Levy was imposed on the following goods for a duration of six months beginning from March 10.  Commodity Levy per kilogram has been imposed on Yoghurt, Butter and Dairy spreads. As such, Rs.400 per kg of grated or powdered cheese of all kinds. Rs.200 per kg of dried and fresh dates and fresh oranges. Rs.300 per kg of fresh grapes, apples and other fruit varieties.
