Special security measures will be enacted by the Police and tri forces for all churches across the country holding Christmas services.

In preparation for the Christmas and festive season, a comprehensive security programme encompassing the entire country will be implemented, with police and STF assigned to ensure the safety of the public, police said.

Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga said that the Acting IGP has issued instructions to all senior officers and OICs to make necessary arrangements concerning security.
SSP Manathunga said that over 6,500 officers have been deployed in the Western Province alone to maintain security and order.

It was reported that more than 2000 churches nationwide are scheduled to hold masses on Christmas Day.

Accordingly, Senior DIGs, ASPs, HQIs, and OICs in respective police areas will be directed to coordinate with the civil committees established at churches to implement necessary security measures.

The spokesman said that Special Task Force of Police personnel will also be deployed for relevant security measures and police said they will seek assistance from the Army or other security forces if required.

Meanwhile, police said special operations will be carried out targeting reckless drivers during the festive season.
The spokesman said a comprehensive security programme has been planned to ensure public safety during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festive season.
Additionally, more than 500 police officers dressed in civilian attire will be stationed near religious sites and crowded shopping areas to monitor and identify potential criminal activities.
