• 27 children suffering from TB had been identified last year and 20 for the last ten months of this year

Health authorities expressed concern about the spread of Tuberculosis among school children in the Galle District. Medical officer of the District AntiTuberculosis Campaign Dr. M.C. Mudannayaka said the rate of TB patients in the district has been increasing in alarming proportions and that several children under 15 years of age were among them.  

He said 27 children suffering from TB had been identified last year and 20 for the last ten months of this year. Medical Officer said 388 patients including adults had been identified for the period.  

Dr. Mudannayaka further said,  patients neglecting treatment were facing the danger of worsening the condition and that about six percent of the patients could die due to the neglect of proper treatment.
