Following the death of an inmate due to brain fever, court appearances for inmates of the Galle Prison will now be conducted remotely via Zoom video conferencing technology, to ensure the safety of inmates and prison staff of the Prison, a spokesman said.

Prison activities have been restricted following health concerns and eight inmates are receiving treatment for fever-related symptoms at the hospital.
