Sri Lankan students shine in Global Challenge Robotics Competition



 

  • Students were from Dharmapala College, St. Sebastian’s College and Elizabeth Moir School 
  • Competing against 193 countries, the team—Raveen Akuretiyawa, Tharul Senanayake, Heveen Ramachandra, Supul Baddegama and Malik Radigal won the Zhang Heng Award for Engineering Design

A team of students from Dharmapala College, St. Sebastian’s College and Elizabeth Moir School achieved international recognition by winning the Zhang Heng Award for Engineering Design at the 6th Global Challenge Robotics Competition 2024, held in Athens, Greece, from September 26 to 29.  

Competing against 193 countries, the team—Raveen Akuretiyawa, Tharul Senanayake, Heveen Ramachandra, Supul Baddegama and Malik Radigal won the Zhang Heng Award for Engineering Design.   

The Sri Lankan team’s innovation secured first place, followed by teams from Colombia and India.  The students were accorded a warm welcome at the Bandaranaike International Airport.   The Global Challenge Robotics Competition focuses on engaging young people in solving real-world problems through technology.
