Sri Lanka has sought to import onion from Pakistan under an easy payment system, but the request is still under consideration by the Pakistani authorities, Daily Mirror learns.
Like India, which is the largest onion exporter, Pakistan has imposed a minimum export price and seeks advanced payment from importers under the current circumstances.

Sri Lanka asked for this facility from Pakistan after India extended the export ban on onion to contain inflation in that country ahead of the elections.

Sri Lanka used to import onion from India. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka sought an exemption from the export ban to purchase some quantities of onion from India.
