The Western Provincial (WP) Education Department has informed the Education Ministry that there is no need to take any disciplinary action against the teachers who performed a dance during the World Children’s Day celebration at Kadirana Junior School in Negombo.   

While issuing a letter, the WP Zonal Education Director, P. Srilal Nonis said that the performance was a  part of the group activity with the participation of students.  The WP Zonal education director called for a report regarding a video that was circulating on social media. After inspecting the report, the zonal education director requested the ministry not to take any action against the teachers.  The teachers and the students were performing a dance to a song that was included in a film screened in the 1940s.  Nonis mentioned the teachers were previously questioned about their performance.
