A blood and pathology test should be carried out to determine whether the sudden drop in platelets of a dead hotel worker who was administered with COVID-19 vaccine, was due to a complication caused by the vaccine, Assistant Judicial Medical Officer of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Samadhi Dandeniya Arachchi said.

The AJMO who conducted the post mortem on the deceased told the Daily Mirror that the 40-year-old hotel employee had received the COVID-19 vaccine two weeks ago and had developed complications like fever, body aches, drop in platelets and vomiting.“The deceased from Embilipitiya was transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead. There was brain hemorrhage as well,” she said.

“It was also confirmed in the post mortem that there were blood clots in other organs as well. However, it is impossible to say that this was due to complications caused by the vaccine. It is yet to be ascertained by a blood and pathology test and bone marrow biopsy,” Dandeniya Arachchi added.
