Supreme Court determination on Anti-Terrorism Bill

Supreme Courts which had held that certain sections of the Anti-Terrorism Bill are inconsistent with the constitution had determined that the definition of the Bill and those which are described as offences should be more in line with international laws.

“The definition of terrorism should also be in line with the UN definition of terrorism while it should be in line with the resolution of 1373 of 2001 on terrorist financing,” the determination said.
Accordingly the Supreme Court had said the definition of an act of terrorism should also be in line with the law in UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada should be considered when determining the definition of terrorism in the proposed legislation. It has said that laws of the mentioned countries could be useful when amending the proposed Sri Lankan anti terror legislation.
