A drug addict spending Rs.10,000 a day for heroin was taken into custody in connection with a series of robberies in several areas of the country by the Dehiwala police yesterday.
He was a resident of Tissamaharama and an employee of an air conditioner service centre in Dehiwala. During investigations police recovered stolen property valued more than Rs.2.2 million including laptop computers, costly wrist watches, jewellery, cellular phones and statues of antique value.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was a drug addict who spent more than Rs.10,000 a day for heroin and that he resorted to robbery to earn money for his addiction.
Police conducted investigations based on CCTV recordings arrested the suspects in connection with the theft of property valued more than Rs.2 million from a house in Dehiwala and under interrogation he revealed his involvement in several other robberies.
