Take action against human rights violations in SL; Sri Lankans in Europe protest at Geneva



 

  • Demands to put an end to state sponsored terrorism

A large crowd of Sri Lankan expatriates and permanent residents of Europe conducted a demonstration in front of the United Nations office in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday demanding justice for human rights violations and intimidation of protesters in Sri Lanka.   

A several hundred Sri Lankans from Italy, Belgium, France, UK, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland got together opposite the United Nations office around 12noon in Geneva time for the demonstration.   


The demonstrators held banners and placards and chanted slogans demanding action against the blatant human rights violations presently taking place in Sri Lanka by means of repression and intimidation of Galle Face activist and protesters.   


They also demanded for independent investigations to be carried out into the May 09th attack on the GotaGoGama Aragalaya and its activists by goons of the previous Rajapaksa regime and certain top law enforcement officials, who were blamed to have ignored their duty.   


The demonstration gathered under the theme ‘International Solidarity with the People’s Movement in Sri Lanka’ demanded to put an end to state sponsored terrorism with repression and to immediately release the political prisoners.
