Though school Principals, Pirivena teachers and teachers of government approved special private schools accept the government’s decision to pay the allowance of Rs. 5,000 to them with immediate effect, teachers’ and principals’ services would not give up the trade union struggle until they are paid the remaining two thirds salary increase pledged by the government during their month long trade union action late last year, Ceylon Teachers’ Union Chairman, Joseph Stalin said yesterday.
The government has decided to pay the Rs. 5,000 allowance paid to public servants from January onwards to pirivena teachers and teachers of government approved special private schools.
Mass Media Minister and former Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma told media that the delay in getting information on pirivena and government approved special school teachers, delayed the payment of Rs. 5,000 allowance to them simultaneously with other public servants in January.
The government paid one third of salary increments recommended by the Subhodini committee ending the trade union action of teachers and principals in late last year with the promise to pay the rest effective from January, 2022.
