• The suspect Edirisinghe Arachchige Asanka attempted to escape arrest by offering a bribe of Rs.1 million

A teledrama actor Edirisinghe Arachchige Asanka who had in his possession a stock of the illegal intoxicant Methamphetamine (ICE) and attempted to escape arrest by offering a bribe of Rs.1 million to the police was taken into custody by Thanamalwila police.  

 The suspect  was produced before the Wellawaya magistrate and detained for further questioning till October 11, on court order.  

He is alleged to have offered a gratification of Rs.1 million to HQI Thanamalwila police D.M.P. Bandara to secure the release without action. A police team had carried out the raid at Balaharuwa area on information received by the HQI and arrested the suspect who had in his possession 10.3grams of the illegal intoxicant.   

A lawyer had called over at the police and provided legal advise to the suspect in custody.   

Investigations revealed that a case against him for his involvement in trading on a stock of ICE valued Rs.40 million in Talaimannar area was pending and that an investigation against him regarding his illegal assets was ongoing.  

A police team under HQI Thanamalwila police CI D.M.P. Bandara is conducting further investigations.
