Term tests for students in grade 1 to 5 would be scrapped in the forthcoming educational policy, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said yesterday.

He told Parliament that students between grades one to five would be subject to continuous testing through modules instead of term tests.

Responding to a question by SJB MP Rohini Kumari Kaviratne, the Minister said students’ burden on examinations would be alleviated in the proposed educational policies.   The Minister also said results of the previous year’s A/L examination would be released within the month of August and that it was delayed by a week than the scheduled time due to the recent unrest situation in the country.

He said the A/ L examination would be rescheduled for the first week of December due to a one week delay in releasing the A/L results. “We had earlier planned to release the results by August 15. But it will be delayed by a week. We will release the results within August,” he said.
