The issue with appointment of ministers and state ministers is not the expenditure involved but appointment of legible people, an SJB MP said yesterday.

SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne told a media conference that the issue today with Sri Lanka is the conflicts of interest of those who have been appointed as ministers.

“ No one who is engaged in business should be appointed as ministers as the information they gather from the cabinet and the government as a whole will be used to develop their businesses. Therefore if anyone engaged business is appointed as ministers they should resign ,” he said.

“ Also the qualifications and eligibilities for a minister should be included in the constitution. Also the subjects of ministries should also be included in the constitution. The subjects of cabinet should not change when heads of state change,” he added.

He said one should not focus on the expenditure involved with cabinet alone as there are host of other issues with regard to the cabinet in Sri Lanka.
