 There are no legal provisions for the arrest of anyone over making defamatory statements on the President or the government under the penal code, SJB Chief Executive Officer Ajith P. Perera said yesterday.

 Mr. Perera said a three Member bench led by Eva Wanasundara had once given an interpretation on section 120 of the Penal code, under which a person could be arrested only if he or she had engaged in a criminal act.
